A decision from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Wednesday that again struck down parts of the state's oil and gas law, known as Act 13, was applauded by environmental advocates, while the energy industry and others met it with indifference, saying the opinion won't have much effect on daily operations.

San Francisco-based Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) filed a response with state regulators on Monday, defending its proposal to close its nuclear plant over the next decade and replace that power source with renewables and efficiency programs. Natural gas-fired power generation would not be one of the options.

It is not a matter of if, but when, the now-stalled Jordan Cove liquefied natural gas export project gets on track at FERC, the CEO in charge of the project for Calgary-based Veresen Inc. told an investor day audience in Toronto on Tuesday.

FERC has granted Columbia Gas Transmission LLC authorization to place into service the third phase of its Line MB Extension Project, which is intended to improve reliability of natural gas service to utilities serving central Maryland.

Physical natural gas continued to grind lower Thursday as traders scurried to get deals done before the weekly Energy Information Administration storage report.
